Rufous Hummingbird Coaster – Hidden Moments
The Story:
At the end of the nesting season every year, Rufous Hummingbirds return south ahead of colder temperatures in the Canadian Rockies. Josiah discovered approximately a dozen and a half of these tiny birds tucked into the trees near the northern shore of a mountain lake, resting up and feeding on nature’s sugars to sustain them for the journey ahead. Male hummingbirds are never very excited to be in each other’s company, but it goes with the territory during migration, so these two were reluctantly tolerating one another. Mostly.
