Waxwing Placemat – Pastel Waxwings
The Story:
Josiah loves photographing the local birds here in southwest Alberta, and both Cedar and Bohemian Waxwings have always been favourite subjects for him. Josiah and his father, John, spotted these Cedar Waxwings along the Crowsnest River on the way home from the family’s Wildlife Art Gallery one evening, and quickly headed out with their long lenses and tripods.
Agile hunters, these birds can turn quickly and snatch flying insects at high speeds, which is exactly what they were doing above the river while Josiah happily photographed them. Eventually, the pair took a break and perched for a moment’s rest. Josiah was immediately attracted to the pastel colours and tones of their perch, and composed this image against the muted background of the river bank in the soft evening light.
